Control State Spirits Sales Up 2.3% Year-To-Date
May 20, 2015Spirits case sales in control states rose 2.3% year-to-date through April, as shelf dollars increased 5.1% over the same period, according to NABCA. Rolling 12-month spirits volume growth for April totaled 2.3%, marking a slight deceleration from March’s 2.6% gain. During March and April, Michigan surpassed Pennsylvania in terms of control states spirits market share, as measured by rolling 12-month case totals. Irish whiskey—which represents a 1% share of the control states spirits market—continues to be control states’ fastest-growing category, rising 13.5% in April, while vodka, which holds a 35% share, was up 2.2% for the month. Nine-liter wine case sales, meanwhile, fell 0.5% in April, as rolling 12-month wine volumes grew 1.4%, down from a 2.2% rate the month prior.
