Wine Spectator: Staglin Family and Neighbor Team Up to Purchase Historic Napa Valley Vineyard

July 16, 2015

Napa Valley’s Staglin Family Vineyards has teamed up with neighbor Suzanne Deal Booth to buy a historic property that adjoins both of their vineyards. The 19-acre Fahrig Ranch in Rutherford is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, which Staglin and Booth will vinify, possibly for single-vineyard wines. The purchase price wasn’t disclosed.

The Fahrig land was once part of a 368-acre ranch founded by the Steckter family in 1864. When Garen and Shari Staglin established their winery in 1985, they purchased a 50-acre parcel of the Steckter property that was once the source of Beaulieu Vineyard’s Georges de Latour Private Reserve bottling.

In 1987, the Staglins purchased an additional hillside plot, and in 2007 they acquired the original Steckter home. With this new sale, the family controls 101 contiguous acres of vineyards in Rutherford. Wine Spectator has the full story.
