July 17, 2015•San Francisco-based Almanac Beer Co., a leading maker of oak-aged sour beers, will enter the Chicago market for the first time this month. Wirtz Beverage plans to distribute such Almanac labels as Dogpatch Sour, Golden Gate Gose and Emperor Norton, the last a dry-hopped pale ale. The beers will be offered in 22-ounce and 375-ml. bottles as well as on draft. Illinois is eighth state for distribution of Almanac, which is already sold in California, Washington, New York, Oregon, Nevada, Colorado and Idaho.
•Colorado’s Fort Collins Brewery has launched a Retro Brewer’s Lunchbox, a re-creation of the brewer’s first variety 12-pack. Rolling out this August and September, the Retro Brewer’s Lunchbox will include Fort Collins Brewery’s 1900 Amber Lager, which has been out of production since 2013, as well as its Chocolate Stout, Red Banshee, Rocky Mountain IPA and Major Tom’s American Wheat labels, the latter of which has since been renamed Major Tom’s Pomegranate Wheat. Each of the brews will feature vintage labeling. The Retro Brewer’s Lunchbox will be available for a limited time across Fort Collins Brewery’s full 23-state footprint.
•San Diego, California-based Coronado Brewing Company is releasing a special double IPA to its limited release Crown Series in celebration of its 19th anniversary. Coronado’s 19th Anniversary IPA (9% abv) is brewed with 2-Row and British Crystal 45 malts with Citra, Green Bullet, Simcoe and Wakatu hops. Coronado has expanded into four new states this year, bringing its distribution footprint to 20 states in all. Last year the brewer opened a new tasting room and restaurant in Imperial Beach, California and saw double-digit growth for the fourth year in a row.
•Las Vegas’ Sin City Brewing Company has introduced a “Grand Cru” beer as part of its series of higher-alcohol seasonals. The higher-strength witbier is the first Belgian-style offering to debut under the Sin City banner. The 8%-abv Grand Cru is available through August at Sin City’s location on Las Vegas Boulevard and next week at the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian.
