•The Starbucks coffee chain is aiming to double its beverage alcohol business in Chicago with applications for eight more liquor licenses in the city and suburbs. The company is expanding its “Starbucks Evenings” program, which has paired beer and wine and bistro-style appetizers since 2010, in a bid to boost late-day sales. Starbucks currently serves alcohol in 39 stores in the U.S., ranging from markets such as Seattle, Los Angeles and Portland, Oregon, to Chicago, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and Orlando, Florida. The company has announced that it’s seeking to broaden beer and wine to 3,000 of its 11,900 U.S. stores within the next five years.

•Cocktail shot brand Liqs is expanding availability into the New York and New Jersey markets. Including Tequila Cinnamon Orange, Vodka Lychee Grapefruit, Vodka Kamikaze, Vodka Cucumber Lime and newly released Vodka Lemon Drop flavors, Liqs initially launched in Miami in 2013 and has since added Massachusetts, Texas, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Canada to its footprint. The brand, created by entrepreneurs Harley Bauer and Michael Glickman, retails at around $8 a single-flavor three-pack of shots.

•Southern Wine & Spirits has promoted Carlos Vigil to vice president, sales effectiveness. Vigil, who joined Southern in 2009 as a director in the strategic programs group, was most recently the distributor’s vice president, inside sales & direct marketing. In his new role, Vigil (who will also continue to oversee Southern’s Inside Sales group) will report directly to Kevin Fennessey, the Miami-based Southern’s executive vice president, commercial strategy.
