August 26, 2015•Italy’s Santa Cristina, part of the Antinori portfolio handled in the U.S. by Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, is introducing a Pinot Grigio from the delle Venezie appellation. The Santa Cristina 2014 Pinot Grigio delle Venezie IGT ($12) joins a brand range of red, white and rosé wines that retail in the $12-$16 price point and includes offerings such as Santa Cristina Rosso Toscana IGT, Le Maestrelle Toscana IGT and Chianti Superiore DOCG, among others.
•William Grant & Sons is releasing a new batch of Balvenie Tun 1509 single malt Scotch whisky in the U.S. market next month. Retailing at $350 a 750-ml. bottle, the new whisky was drawn from 23 traditional American oak casks and nine European Sherry oak casks whose contents were transferred to Balvenie’s Tun 1509 for several months before bottling. The resulting single malt is non-chill-filtered and 50.3% abv.
•SelvaRey Rum, co-owned by musician Bruno Mars, is expanding its distribution reach to several new states. Originally launched in California and Nevada, the Panamanian rum line will now be available in New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, Georgia, Washington D.C., Tennessee, Florida and Hawaii, with expansion to Ontario planned for this fall. SelvaRey features two rums created by master blender Don Francisco “Pancho” Fernandez—SelvaRey White (40% abv, $25) and Cacao (35% abv, $30).
•Domaine Select Wine & Spirits (DSWS) has appointed Evis Savvides to the role of executive vice president, chief financial officer and chief operating officer, effective immediately. He joins DSWS from consulting group SFG, and prior to that served as COO for Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits.
•Southern Wine & Spirits of Illinois has named Michael Housey as vice president, general sales manager-Wine, effective immediately. Housey was previously vice president, general manager-Michigan at SWS’s North American Spirits & Wine Brokerage division. In his new role, Housey will report directly to Terry Brick, Southern’s senior vice president, general manager-Illinois.
•San Diego-based Kimo Sabe Mezcal has appointed Kirk Gaither to the role of executive vice president, sales, effective immediately. Gaither most recently served as vice president of marketing for Infinium Spirits (part of Young’s Holdings).
