Craft Brewing and Distilling News for September 8, 2015
September 8, 2015•New Belgium Brewing is tweaking the recipes of two of its longest-running beers: Abbey Belgian Style Dubbel and Trippel Belgian Style Ale. Both began as homebrew recipes more than 25 years ago and are being “updated for a new era,” the company says. In addition to Munich malt, Trippel (8.5% abv) will now include Pilsener malt and hop variety Hallertau Mittelfrüh, for an herbal and spicy nose. Abbey, meanwhile, has added Caramunich and Special W malts and is at 7% abv. For a short time, both the new and old versions of Abbey and Trippel ales will be side-by-side on shelves. The new Abbey expression will carry a sell-by date of 6/19/16 or later, while Trippel’s new incarnation will be dated 4/17/16 or later.
•Portland, Oregon’s Laurelwood Brewing Company is set to release six new fresh-hopped beers. Laurelwood’s beers can be found in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska, Pennsylvania, British Columbia and Japan.
