Jameson, The Glenlivet Catapult Pernod Ricard To 8% Sales Growth In U.S.
October 22, 2015Double-digit gains for Jameson (+26%) and The Glenlivet (+15%) propelled Pernod Ricard to 8% sales growth in the U.S. market in its fiscal first quarter (ended September 30). Pernod Ricard also enjoyed solid performances in the market from Malibu (+4%) and its Avión and Altos brands, whose dynamic growth is outpacing that of the overall Tequila category. The company’s flagship Absolut vodka also improved slightly, as its sales were down by 2%, versus a 3% decline in the last fiscal year.
Pernod posted 9% global sales growth for the quarter, with the company’s 3% organic growth augmented by the positive currency exchange impact created by the weak euro. Sales in Europe were up 3%, as both the Eastern and Western parts of the continent showed solid progress. In Asia, the company’s fortunes were mixed, as continued difficulties in China, where sales were down by 9%, were partly offset by double-digit growth in India, where Pernod’s local and global brands are on the rise.
