Total Wine’s David Trone Exploring Congressional Run

David Trone, co-owner of retail juggernaut Total Wine & More, is eyeing a potential run for Congress in Maryland’s 8th Congressional District. Trone is weighing a bid to succeed Democratic Rep. Chris Van Hollen, who has announced that he’s running for the U.S. Senate, Total Wine confirmed to the Washington Post.

Trone would face a field of seven other candidates in the Democratic primary, to be held April 26, including Jamie Raskin, a Maryland state senator, and Kathleen Matthews, a former news anchor and Marriott executive who is the wife of MSNBC’s Chris Matthews. Total Wine spokesman Ed Cooper told the Post that Trone “will have a decision later on this week,” ahead of the February 3rd filing deadline.
