Special Report: The Future Of Craft Distilling

In 2003, there were 60 craft distillers operating in the United States. Today, that total is 760, according to the American Distilling Institute (ADI), and a further 200 are currently under construction. Craft spirits’ market share has doubled in the past two years, and the ADI estimates that current annual growth is around 30%. Some analysts believe that craft’s share could hit 8% by 2020, approaching the levels achieved by craft beer. Meanwhile, mainstream spirits players are on the craft acquisition trail, creating a transformational moment for the U.S. industry.
