April 12, 2016•Brown-Forman is launching a new whiskey brand, Coopers’ Craft, its first new Bourbon label in two decades. Coopers’ Craft, whose name is a nod to the barrel-making process and its importance to Bourbon production, is an 82.2 proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon. It will debut this summer across eight southeastern markets—Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee—retailing at around $29 a 750-ml.
•Ste. Michelle Wine Estates’ 14 Hands has introduced a new label called Stampede Red Blend. Sourced from Washington’s Columbia Valley AVA, Stampede is made with Syrah, Merlot, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon and Mourvèdre. The company has also released a commemorative 2013 Kentucky Derby Red Blend. The limited edition label, which marks 14 Hands’ fourth annual partnership with the Kentucky Derby, is made with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah and features imagery of last year’s Kentucky Derby winner, American Pharaoh and jockey Victor Espinoza. Both new red blends retail at $12 a 750-ml. An Impact “Hot Brand,” 14 Hands grew 11.4% to 1.85 million cases in the U.S. last year, according to Impact Databank.
•Shaw-Ross International Importers has released Lombardo Marsala Vergine Riserva del Centenario, a 35-year-old Marsala wine. Lombardo winemaker Giuseppe Aripoli made the new offering in 1981, a year in which Marsala’s Grillo, Cataratto and Inzolio grapes presented a remarkable vintage. The wine was then aged for the past 35 years in 100-year-old oak casks. Retailing at $45 a 500-ml., Lombardo’s Vergine Riserva del Centenario is rolling out to select fine wine shops and upscale restaurants.
