DFV Ups Monterey Presence With Santa Lucia Highlands Vineyard Buy

May 24, 2016

Delicato Family Vineyards (DFV) has acquired River Road Vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands from the McFarland family. The purchase, which was made for an undisclosed sum, includes 243 acres planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling. DFV said it will begin incorporating fruit from River Road in future luxury programs, and also pursue replanting, with focus on Pinot Noir.

River Road was originally planted in 1972 by the late Jerry McFarland, whose family will continue to source fruit from River Road for the McFarland brand. For DFV, the acquisition complements the company’s existing Monterey vineyard holdings, which include the San Bernabe Vineyard in the sub-appellation of the same name.
