Jameson Reorganizes Portfolio Amid Fast Growth

June 2, 2016

Leading Irish whiskey brand Jameson has revamped its global portfolio, splitting its stable into four distinct segments. The updated lineup includes the brand’s core whiskey ($25 a 750-ml.); the Heritage whiskies ($40-$53), comprising Jameson Black Barrel, Crested and Signature; the Deconstructed Series ($40), which includes travel retail exclusives Jameson Bold, Lively and Round; and the Whiskey Makers Series, which will initially feature Jameson’s The Cooper’s Croze label ($78)—a blended whiskey aged in American oak, Bourbon and Iberian sherry casks—in the U.S.

In a statement to SND, Pernod noted, “Jameson Caskmates and Jameson 18-year-old will be remain part of the portfolio in the U.S., though not formally categorized within the four segments.” The new structure is intended to highlight the brand’s full range of offerings and give consumers an “exploration path” to its super-premium whiskies.

Jameson’s portfolio restructuring comes as the Pernod Ricard brand continues to make rapid progress in the U.S. The Impact “Hot Brand,” which accounts for roughly 80% of the market’s total Irish whiskey volume, was up 17.9% to 2.4 million cases in the U.S. last year, according to Impact Databank. In recent years, the brand’s growth has been driven in part by its higher-end entries, including Black Barrel, which has attracted Bourbon consumers via its versatility in classic cocktails like the Old Fashioned.
