June 3, 2016•Campari America has debuted Baron Samedi, a new spiced rum brand. A 90-proof blend of Caribbean column still rum and Jamaican pot still rum, Baron Samedi is named for a notorious figure from Haitian Vodou culture. Retailing at $22 a 750-ml., Baron Samedi is initially launching in Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
•Ste. Michelle Wine Estates is releasing what it says is the first wine to be crowdsourced from vineyard to bottle. Columbia Crest Crowdsourced Cabernet was made in a process that allowed consumers to vote on key winemaking decisions throughout production—including bud break, harvest, fermentation, the final blend and the label. Ste. Michelle is making about 1,000 cases of the new wine available through Columbia Crest’s e-commerce site, as well as at its tasting room in Paterson, Washington, at a price of $30 a bottle.
•Illinois-based importer Winesellers, Ltd. is introducing Senda Verde, a new Spanish wine brand. Sourced from the northwest of Spain, Senda Verde includes an Albariño D.O. Rías Baixas, Treixadura D.O. Ribeiro, Godello D.O. Bierzo and Mencia D.O. Bierzo, all retailing at $13 a bottle.
