August 16, 2016•Frederick Wildman & Sons has been appointed the U.S. importer for Italy’s Lungarotti wines. Based in Umbria, Lungarotti has two wineries—one in Torgiano with approximately 600 acres, and one in Montefalco with about 50 acres. Run by sisters Chiara Lungarotti (CEO) and Teresa Serevini (enologist), Lungarotti is known for its Rubesco reds from Torgiano as well as its Montefalco Sagrantino.
•Boston Beer Co.’s Angry Orchard cider brand has released Easy Apple, billed as a sessionable and less sweet hard cider that’s also lower in calories. Made with a blend of culinary and bittersweet apple varieties, the 4.2%-abv offering is rolling out in six-packs ($9-$10 each) across select markets, including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Arkansas and Rhode Island, this month. Easy Apple will also be available nationwide as part of Angry Orchard’s seasonal Fall Orchard Sampler variety pack. The leading cider brand in the U.S., Angry Orchard was up 3% to 14.95 million cases last year, according to Impact Databank.
