Diageo Unveils New Johnnie Walker “Blenders’ Batch” Range

September 14, 2016

Diageo is innovating in the whisky space with a new Blenders’ Batch range of Scotch whiskies under its Johnnie Walker brand. The first expression from the Blenders’ Batch collection is Red Rye Finish (€20/$22 a bottle), which was aged in first-fill Bourbon casks and finished in rye casks. The blend includes Cardhu single malt and Port Dundas grain whisky. Johnnie Walker’s Blenders’ Batch series is intended to highlight the efforts of master blender Jim Beveridge and his team, who continually experiment with different distillation conditions, wood and grain combinations and cask finishes to create new flavor profiles. Further additions to the collection are upcoming.

Johnnie Walker slipped 9% to 1.6 million cases in the U.S. in 2015, according to Impact Databank, but in Diageo’s full fiscal year through June the brand grew net sales 7%, led by a 23% jump in its Reserve-level business. —Daniel Marsteller
