Colombian Rum Brand Dictador Launches New Collaboration With European Producers

Colombian rum maker Dictador has unveiled a partnership with six European wine and spirits producers to collaborate on a series of luxury rum expressions. The new initiative, called 2 Masters, teams Dictador with Cognac Hardy, Scotch whisky maker Glenfarclas Distillery, Champagne Leclerc Briant, Sauternes Grand Cru label Chateau d’Arche, Vignobles Despagne from Bordeaux’s Entre-Deux-Mers region and Armagnac producer Chateau Laballe.

Each of those producers will finish an expression from Dictador that’s been aged for a minimum of 40 years. In all cases, the partner winemaker or master distiller will have full control over the finishing process. Finishing will take anywhere from three months to three years, depending upon the partner.

“These alliances will create products that will transcend traditional categories and labels,” said Dictador master blender Hernan Parra. The company is also mapping plans to collaborate with producers of Bourbon, Tequila, Mezcal, saké, Port and baijiu in future iterations of the 2 Masters program.

The initial 2 Master’s releases will debut in the second quarter of 2018, and pricing hasn’t been set. Dictador is handled in the U.S. by 375 Park Avenue Spirits, which is owned by Sazerac. —David Fleming
