Diageo To Open New $80 Million Guinness Brewery In August
July 6, 2018Diageo’s new Maryland-based Guinness brewery is set to open to the public on August 3. The $80-million Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House is located in Relay south of Baltimore and will produce Guinness Blonde American Lager as well as new experimental beers (Guinness Draught and the brand’s other stouts will continue to be imported from Ireland). The 10-barrel brewery features a tour, taproom, gift shop, and restaurant. Diageo North America president Deirdre Mahlan told SND earlier this year that the company expects about 300,000 visitors annually at the new brewery, which is located on the site of the former Calvert distillery, acquired by Diageo along with its purchase of Seagram in 2001.—Shane English
