August 27, 2018•Brazil’s Avuá Cachaça has added Bálsamo Aged Cachaça to its U.S. portfolio. The 40%-abv spirit is distilled from sugarcane grown on a single-estate family-owned farm and aged for up to two years in barrels made from Brazilian Bálsamo wood. The barrel-aged cachaça has herbal and fruity notes with a strong minerality, according to the distiller, and retails for $50 a 750-ml. This is the seventh cachaça released in the U.S. by the company. It joins the existing lineup of Jequitibá Rosa, Still Strength, Amburana, Oak Cachaça, Tapinhoã, and the flagship Prata Cachaça.
•Famous Brands has partnered with Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits to bring Merica Bourbon to California, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Nevada, and New York. The 45%-abv Bourbon is made from a mash bill of 70% corn, 26% rye, and 4% wheat, and sourced from MGP. Merica Bourbon, founded by former Marine Derek Sisson, can now be found in 18 states and Washington D.C.
