William Grant & Sons’ Sales Near £1.2 Billion On 12% Increase

October 9, 2018

William Grant & Sons has revealed a strong set of numbers for its 2017 fiscal year, with turnover up 12% to £1.18 billion ($1.5b). The Scotland-based drinks group also enjoyed robust profit growth for the year, with operating profit rising 22% to £276 million ($361m). The company noted that North America, Asia, and Europe are driving gains for its portfolio, as it “continues to enjoy the improving trends for single malt whisky offset by a more challenging competitive blended Scotch market.”

According to Impact Databank, Grant’s blended Scotch whisky—the third-largest brand in the category after Johnnie Walker and Ballantine’s—was up 1.3% to 4.5 million cases globally last year, while Glenfiddich, the top brand in the single malt segment, grew 3.4% to 1.3 million cases. Much of Glenfiddich’s growth came from the U.S. market, where it expanded by 13% to cross the 200,000-case mark last year.—Daniel Marsteller
