Stoli Group Names Diageo Veteran Dan Buttling As Global CMO
September 25, 2019Stoli Group has appointed spirits industry veteran Dan Buttling as CMO, a new role in the company, effective October 1. Based at Stoli’s New York City headquarters, Buttling will lead all aspects of marketing across the global portfolio.
Buttling spent 31 years at Diageo, where he was most recently CMO for the beer unit, overseeing brands like Guinness, Harp, Smithwick’s, and Smirnoff Ice. Prior to that he held a variety of marketing and sales roles at the drinks giant, including leading brand marketing for labels like Ketel One, Cîroc, Bulleit, and Johnnie Walker.
Stoli Group CEO Rudy Costello said Buttling “will play a pivotal role as we look to continue the growth of our vodka portfolio, while aggressively developing our roster of super-premium brands.”
Stoli’s flagship vodka rose 3% in the U.S. last year to 1.8 million cases, according to Impact Databank. The company has also expanded its portfolio in recent years to include Kentucky Owl whiskey, Bayou rum, and others. Most recently, Stoli Group partnered with Nick Jonas and John Varvato to launch Villa One Tequila.—Daniel Marsteller
