Pennsylvania Governor Reconsidering Closure Of PLCB Stores
March 24, 2020At press time Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf reportedly was reconsidering his decision to close the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Boards stores and online sales, which took effect last week. Wolf is said to be looking at other states’ approaches to beverage alcohol sales as they deal with the outbreak, and trying to strike a balance between his mission to stop the spread of the virus and the needs of those with substance use disorders, for whom lack of access can quickly become a health issue in its own right. Beyond those concerns, Pennsylvania is losing tax revenue with the closure of the stores, with many consumers crossing borders to buy in other states.—Daniel Marsteller
