•The COVID-19 pandemic presents a Catch-22 for charity wine auctions. Their philanthropic efforts to support communities are needed more than ever, yet they cannot gather for big events. So while lockdown measures persist, auction organizers are trying new fundraising strategies. While many charities have faced event cancellations or postponements, they are using virtual auctions and fund-a-needs to continue to support their neighbors in need. Wine Spectator has the full story.

•Spanish wine specialist Arano USA has been appointed the U.S. importer for Priorat’s Mas Martinet Viticultors. The family-run winery produces a range of bottlings including Martinet Bru, a single vineyard blend of Grenache, Carignan, and Syrah; Clos Martinet, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan, Grenache, Merlot, and Syrah; Escurcons, a Grenache from the vineyard of the same name; and Cami Pesseroles, a Carignan-based wine made from grapes grown along its namesake road. Arano USA’s portfolio also includes CVNE, Clos Mogador, and Roger Goulart, among others.

•Oregon’s Adelsheim Vineyard has named Rob Alstrin as president and CEO. In his new role he’ll handle all day-to-day operations at Adelsheim, including vineyard and winery, financial, administrative, marketing, and sales, reporting to owner Lynn Loacker. Alstrin was most recently director of sales and marketing at Argyle Winery.
