California Wildfires: Glass Fire Expands To 46,600 Acres, Only 2% Contained
September 30, 2020While firefighters continue to try and contain the wildfires raging in parts of Napa Valley and Sonoma, stunned vintners are trying to find out if their wineries have been consumed by the flames. As of yesterday at 730pm local time, the Glass Fire, which ignited Sept. 27, had consumed more than 46,600 acres, destroying homes, wineries and other businesses, with countless others still under threat as the fire was only 2% contained.
CalFire said that while some evacuations for the city of Santa Rosa have been downgraded, changing winds have led to increased fire activity and hot dry weather is expected to continue for the next several days, complicating efforts to bring the fires under control. Wine Spectator continues to monitor the situation.
