Illinois Sets New Record As September Sales Near $100 Million
October 6, 2020The Illinois cannabis market continues to surge to new heights nine months after recreational sales were legalized. Total cannabis sales in the state registered $99.1 million in September, up from $95 million in August. Adult-use cannabis accounted for $67.6 million of that figure, with medical sales making up the remainder.
“Consumer demand remains strong throughout the ongoing Covid-19 crisis and we expect industry growth to continue as operators ramp up capacity to increase supply, new stores open throughout the state and existing stores add adult-use sales,” Illinois-based cannabis player Green Thumb Industries noted. Green Thumb is adding its eighth adult-use retail store in Illinois this week, with its Rise Naperville outlet set to open Thursday. The company has licenses to open two more stores in the state.—Daniel Marsteller
