Cannabis Briefs for October 13, 2020
October 13, 2020•Maine began selling recreational cannabis last week, becoming the tenth state to do so. The state legalized in 2016 but sales were delayed by opposition from former governor Paul LePage, who twice vetoed efforts to establish a sales framework. Six of nine licensed recreational retailers opened on Friday for their first customers but, as has been the case in the early days of other markets, product shortages are already looming. For the time being customers are limited to one eighth of an ounce of flower, one pre-roll, and one edible. First-day sales totaled $94,643, according to Maine’s Office of Marijuana Policy.
