January 8, 2021•Capping off a year where a spotlight was placed on diversity in American whiskey, a new operation in Louisville, Kentucky has officially launched as the state’s first African American-owned distillery. Brough Brothers Distillery, founded by brothers and Kentucky natives Victor, Christian, and Bryson Yarbrough, opened its doors earlier this month in the Park Hill neighborhood, and Bourbon production is already underway. •Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC) and Florida Caribbean Distilleries have inked a new agreement, adding the distillery’s brands to RNDC’s portfolio in Colorado, Washington, D.C., Hawaii, Kentucky, Maryland, and South Carolina, effective February 1. Additionally, the new agreement will bring Florida Caribbean’s RTDs into the RNDC stable throughout its 32-state distribution footprint beginning in March. Florida Caribbean’s portfolio includes Capriccio Sangria, and a number of spirits brands, including an upcoming spirits-based RTD in the Capriccio family.
•Dundee Hills, Oregon-based winery Sokol Blosser has unveiled a number of initiatives around its 50th anniversary this year. The winery is launching an exclusive anniversary bottling of 2018 Old Vineyard Block Dundee Hills Pinot Noir with a retro label that evokes the brand’s original 1970s label design and shape ($60), and for one day, on February 2, will offer its 2018 Redland Estate Cuvée Pinot Noir at $6.75 a bottle, the same price of its inaugural Pinot Noir launch in 1977. The festivities also include online tastings with the Sokol Blosser family, and plans to feature 50th anniversary flights featuring library wines when the tasting room is able to reopen.
