Exclusive: Vintus Names Michas As President, Adds Iron Horse Vineyards To Portfolio

February 3, 2021

New York-based importer, marketer, and wholesaler Vintus has promoted Alexander Michas to president, a role previously held by founder and CEO Michael Quinttus. Michas was previously executive vice president and COO.

Michas joined Vintus in 2005, and over the past 15 years “has been instrumental in building the company’s portfolio, personnel, sales growth and internal systems,” according to the company. Additionally, Vintus has appointed company veteran Konstantine Sukhovarov to vice president, logistics and customer service.

Meanwhile, Vintus has augmented its California wine portfolio with an agreement to distribute the wines of Russian River Valley-based Iron Horse Vineyards on an exclusive basis. Iron Horse produces about 30,000 cases annually and has focused heavily on the direct-to-consumer market over the past decade, deriving about 90% of sales from that channel, while welcoming about 30,000 visitors a year pre-pandemic.

Vintus will look to bolster distribution for Iron Horse’s Classic Vintage Brut ($45) and Wedding Cuvée ($45) sparklers, as well as its still Unoaked Chardonnay ($32). “If you think about the great American families that were pioneers in establishing world class sparkling wine in the United States, the Sterlings and their beloved Iron Horse don’t just come to mind, they are an absolute benchmark,” said Quinttus.
