March 4, 2021•Livermore, California-based Wente Family Estates has named Tyson Overton as CEO. Overton joined the company in 2014 and has most recently served as chief sales and marketing officer. The company credited Overton with helping to drive growth over the past few years, and overdelivering on profit targets last year amid the challenges raised by the pandemic. Current CEO Carolyn Wente will transition to chairman of the company, and Eric Wente, who previously held that role, will become chairman emeritus.
•BSB Spirits—known for its Brown Sugar Bourbon—has announced that actor and singer Jamie Foxx has taken over as owner of the brand. Foxx will guide the brand forward, offering his creative guidance and entrepreneurial experience to further its development. Foxx’s involvement with Brown Sugar Bourbon comes at the same time as a packaging refresh for both the standard and 103 proof BSB offerings; the new iteration features a taller bottle shape and brighter label for both releases. BSB’s flavored whiskies are available nationally through Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits. Heritage Distilling Co., the previous parent of BSB, will continue to have an undisclosed interest in the brand.
•Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits has promoted Steve Lee to senior vice president-general manager for Northern California, effective immediately. Lee is filling the role of Jim Andrus, who retired in December. He joined Southern in 1993 and was most recently vice president, general sales manager. In his new role, Lee will report directly to Steve Harden, executive vice president-general manager for the state of California.
