Prosecco Production Jumped By 25% In 2021
January 27, 2022Prosecco production rose 25.4% in 2021, according to data from the Prosecco DOC Consortium. The region’s certified wine production reached 627.5 million bottles (52.3 million cases) of Prosecco DOC last year. Of those bottles, 71.5 million (5.9 million cases) were rosé, following that style’s recognition under appellation rules in May 2020, which now allows rosé to carry official Prosecco DOC status.
The data also showed premiumization continuing last year, with exports registering a 4% value increase per bottle. Prosecco is the leading denomination of Italian sparkling wine, which makes up approximately 60% of imported sparkling wine shipments to the U.S., according to Impact Databank.—Danny Sullivan
