New Jersey’s Cannabis Regulatory Commission Delays Recreational Rollout

March 29, 2022

New Jersey’s Cannabis Regulatory Commission has delayed its approval of recreational licenses for eight medical dispensaries, setting back the opening of sales in the Garden State at least several more weeks. The commission’s executive director Jeff Brown said concerns about a lack of supply to serve both medical and recreational markets led to the delay, with the shortfall totaling as much as 100,000 pounds of product.

In an effort to boost supply in the state looking ahead, New Jersey regulators did approve 68 cultivators and manufacturers for conditional licenses, although they’re not expected to be up and running until the fall. Meanwhile, New Jersey governor Phil Murphy said he still expects recreational sales to roll out within weeks, not months, even after this latest delay.
