Schumer Delays Rollout Of Federal Cannabis Bill
April 19, 2022The unveiling of the Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act (CAOA), the comprehensive cannabis reform bill backed by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Cory Booker, and Ron Wyden, is being pushed back to August. It was originally planned to be released this month.
Schumer said in a statement that he’s proud of the progress made in “bringing this vital bill closer to its official introduction” before the August recess. The delay is not a promising development and probably indicates that the bill has not found the support it needs in the Senate. The issue is further complicated by the Democratic caucus in the House of Representatives again passing the MORE Act in recent days, a competing Democratic proposal for legalization.—Danny Sullivan
