C. Mondavi & Family Partners With Bolla Family On Valdo Prosecco, Joint Venture Projects
November 16, 2022C. Mondavi & Family has struck a strategic partnership with Italy’s Valdo Prosecco, owned by the Bolla family. Under the agreement, C. Mondavi & Family will handle importation, sales, and marketing for Valdo in the U.S., and the two companies will open two new joint venture projects. The joint ventures will include a new company and brands—to kick off with an initiative called “The Best of Italy”—as well as an additional venture to be based in Carneros, Napa Valley.
Valdo chairman Pierluigi Bolla said the two companies “will work to expand and amplify the Valdo name and distribution throughout the United States.” The move is part of Valdo’s ongoing effort to boost both its namesake brand and the wider Valdobbiadene wine region. According to Impact Databank, Valdo had been hovering around 50,000 cases in the U.S. pre-pandemic before shedding some volume amid the pandemic and supply chain pressures of the past two years.
For C. Mondavi & Family, “The partnership with the Bolla family opens up the door for the next generation that sets up the future of our collective family-owned businesses,” said third-generation co-proprietor Marc Mondavi. The company’s largest label, CK Mondavi and Family, has U.S. volume of approximately 1.1 million cases, according to Impact Databank. The portfolio also includes Charles Krug Winery, Flat Top Hills, French Blue, and West + Wilder. Altogether, C. Mondavi & Family holds over 1,500 acres of California vineyards.—Daniel Marsteller
