Constellation’s Ruffino Expanding Into Bolgheri

March 29, 2023

Ruffino, part of the Constellation portfolio, has acquired a number of estate vineyards in Italy’s Bolgheri region. The company’s new holdings total 15 hectares (37 acres) spread across two subregions, with four hectares in Bolgherese and 11 in Sondraie.

Ruffino further plans to construct a new winery on the property over the next several years which will complement the company’s existing guest-centric location at Poggio Casciano outside Florence. The first vintage made at the new estates will be 2023, with the intention to release in 2025. Constellation says the move is intended as the “first step in the brand’s transformation to establish Ruffino as the ultimate Tuscan fine wine house.” Including both still wines and Prosecco, Ruffino had U.S. volume of 1.3 million cases last year, according to Impact Databank.—Danny Sullivan
