•Rapper Nelly is launching a moonshine brand. First revealed at the WSWA convention last week, Nelly’s product is called MoShine, a triple-distilled, corn-based moonshine developed in collaboration with Piedmont Distillers. With its name featuring a nod to Nelly’s hometown of St. Louis, MO, the new entry debuts with two flavors, peach and passionfruit, both of which are at 30% abv. Available in 50-ml. and 750-ml. options, it’s rolling out now across the country.
•Ghost Tequila has appointed industry veteran Jeff Popkin as CEO. Prior to joining Ghost, Popkin served for six years as CEO of Mast-Jägermeister US. In his new role he’ll look to lead expansion efforts for the spicy Tequila brand, which is distributed nationally. In addition to Popkin’s appointment, Ghost Tequila has just completed a significant funding round from The Raptor Group, a Boston-based private investment firm.
•Sugarlands Distilling Co. has released a limited-edition moonshine to commemorate Nascar’s 75th anniversary. The 75th Anniversary Moonshine made its debut at Bristol Motor Speedway this past weekend at the Sugarlands 360 Bar inside the track that weekend and also will be available at retailers nationwide. The 70-proof moonshine sells in 750-ml. jars. Sugarlands’ lineup includes moonshines and Appalachian Sippin’ Creams with flavors like Dynamite Cinnamon, American Peach, Dark Chocolate Coffee, and Butter Pecan. The company also produces Roaming Man Tennessee Straight Rye Whiskey.
