Craft Brewing and Distilling News for April 19, 2023
April 19, 2023•Last year, American craft breweries sold $28.46 billion worth of beer, a 6% increase over 2021, representing nearly a quarter of the American beer market by value, according to the Boulder, Colorado-based Brewers Association. Craft production was at 24.3 million barrels of beer and 13.2% of the market by volume. The data shows that last year’s production was roughly equal to 2021 but that craft beer’s share by volume ticked up slightly compared to 2021, when craft brands were 13.1% of the market. According to the BA, sales by value outstripped volume due to price increases and a shift towards smaller breweries, many of which make the bulk of their sales in brewery taprooms.
