WSWA Says Spirits And Wine Continued To Slide In April

June 9, 2023

The Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA) report that spirits and wine volume continued to decline in the month of April, down a combined 7% through the first four months of 2023. The group’s SipSource data tracker shows spirits down 5.9% for the first third of the year, with wine slipping 8%.

On the brighter side, both wine and spirits remain in positive territory in the on-premise, growing 1.8% and 6.4% respectively, as the market has added active on-premise accounts in the year to date. Key to the coming months will be the performance of the summer travel season, the WSWA noted, and whether consumer spending is buttressed by lessening inflation and low unemployment.—Daniel Marsteller
