•New York regulators have finally begun cracking down on the 1,000-plus unlicensed cannabis shops operating in New York City. The action comes after lawmakers last month strengthened penalties for illicit sales with legislation that made it a crime to sell without a license and allows the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) to issue fines of up to $20,000 a day for doing so. Seven stores were issued cease and desist orders, presumably the first in a larger series of citations. “These enforcement actions are critical steps to protect and help those individuals who were promised a shot to start a legal business and be successful,” governor Kathy Hochul said. The OCM also announced that retail locations are set to open this month in Farmingdale and Syracuse, making them the first to open in Long Island and Central New York respectively

•Seattle, Washington-based Jones Soda is launching two new flavors for its Mary Jones cannabis-infused soda line. Available in both 10mg and 100mg options, the additions are MF Grape and Cola. The 10mg of THC versions come in 12-ounce glass bottles while the 100mg drinks are packaged in 16-ounce resealable cans to promote paced or multi-session consumption. MF Grape and Cola join Root Beer, Berry Lemonade, Green Apple, and Orange & Cream in the Mary Jones lineup, which is available in California, Michigan, Nevada, and Washington, with plans to expand further later this year.

•Edmonton, Canada-based Aurora Cannabis is upsizing its portfolio with a variety of new offerings. First up is Aurora’s label Daily Special, which this summer is set to receive several products including Lil Bits edibles in Sour Grape and Sour Watermelon flavors featuring 10 1mg candies; Mango XL vape, with nearly 1,000mg of THC per cartridge; and Signature Hash in a 2-gram format. San Rafael ’71 is expanding with Chemango Kush flower, a higher potency version of Pink Kush, at 24-30% THC; Mondo Grapes Live Resin Gummies in a 4-pack of 2.5mg candies; and Tangerine Dream Cured Resin Vape. And the Greybeard brand is adding Biofuel concentrate. Additionally, the company launched Aurora Lab, an experiential research and education program offering behind the scenes access and sneak peeks at new products.
