June 23, 2023•Terlato Wine Group is launching a new wine brand, Paso-D’Oro. Featuring certified sustainable fruit from Paso Robles districts including Estrella, San Juan Creek, and Paso Robles Highlands, the new entry’s moniker translates to “way of gold.” It retails at $30 a bottle and is rolling out this month. Leading winemaking for the brand is Laura Orozco, assistant winemaker at Terlato’s Chimney Rock Winery in Napa Valley.
•Carlton McCoy, Jr. and the Lawrence family have announced the launch of Haynes, a collection of single-estate wines from Haynes Vineyard in Napa Valley’s Coombsville AVA. Haynes is the third new wine brand for Lawrence Wine Estates and will see targeted distribution by sales and marketing partner Demeine Estates. The brand is a collaboration between Lawrence Wine Estates CEO McCoy and Nico Cueva, who joined Lawrence Wine Estates as head winemaker for Haynes in 2020. Its initial range includes three Chardonnays—the Vigneron ($120), Forgeron ($150), and Corazon ($250) bottlings from the 2020 vintage—as well as Forgeron Syrah 2021 ($150) and Forgeron Pinot Noir 2021 ($150).
•Fallon, Nevada’s Frey Ranch Distillery has launched Farm Strength Uncut Bourbon, the latest core addition in the company’s line of American whiskies. The whiskey is made from corn, wheat, barley, and rye grown on the company’s farm and aged for around five years before bottling at 62.15% abv. The new release is now available at the distillery as well as in distribution in California and Nevada for around $80 a 750-ml. This year, Frey Ranch is planning to expand distribution into Arizona, Ohio, and Georgia.
•Royal Wine Corp is introducing Bartenura Dolce Noir, a semisweet red blend from Italy. Designed to capture growth in the semisweet blend segment, Bartenura Dolce Noir is a blend of Cabernet and Barbera. Retailing at $16 a 750-ml., it’s rolling out initially in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Illinois, Texas, California, and Florida, and will be distributed shortly in close to 30 states. Bartenura ranks just inside the top 20 imported table wine brands in the U.S. market by volume with 2022 depletions of approximately 720,000 cases, according to Impact Databank.
•Isle of Arran Distillers, handled in the U.S. by Hotaling & Co., has announced the release of Arran 25-Year-Old Single Malt. The 46% abv whisky is matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks and carries a suggested price of $790. Only 3,000 bottles will be available globally, with 240 allocated to the U.S. The whiskies blended for this single malt were produced in 1995, the year the distillery began production.
