July 13, 2023•Treasury Wine Estates’ Penfolds has teamed up with NIGO, naming the designer as the brand’s first creative partner. The partnership will last for a number of years and kicks off with One by Penfolds, a new series of bottlings from the brand’s vineyards around the world, with labels created by NIGO. There are four new releases in all—sourced from California, France, Australia, and China—with the U.S. receiving three: 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Australia, 2021 Vin Rouge France, and 2021 Red Blend California, all priced at $25 a bottle. This is only the first stage of the partnership between Penfolds and NIGO, and more projects will be unveiled next year.
•Rémy Cointreau’s Rémy Martin has teamed up with singer Usher for a new campaign, titled “Life is a Melody.” The global campaign features a new song called “Comin’ Home,” which will be featured on Usher’s next album. Beyond the video spot, the campaign will feature out-of-home activations including the “4 on the Floor” pop-up skateparks in New York City, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago, and Atlanta. In addition, Rémy Martin will host events in New York and Chicago to promote the campaign. Last year the Cognac brand was at just over 1 million cases cases in the U.S., according to Impact Databank.
•Vintner Michael Benedict, who co-founded and planted the Sanford & Benedict Vineyard in what is now the Sta. Rita Hills appellation of Santa Barbara in the 1970s, passed away on July 3 from melanoma. Benedict was also a botanist, mathematician, conservationist, and expert sailor. He was 83. •Warner’s Distillery, a U.K.-based independent gin maker, is set to bring its wares to the U.S. through a distribution agreement with 375 Park Avenue Spirits. Under the terms, 375 Park Avenue will assume responsibility for all sales of Warner’s Distillery’s portfolio of super-premium spirits in the U.S. as well as supporting marketing efforts. Founded in 2012 and made on the Warner family’s Northamptonshire farm, the range includes Warner’s Harrington Dry Gin (44% abv), as well as rhubarb, raspberry, and elderflower variants (all 40% abv), which are launching in the U.S. this summer. The distillery also produces several 0% abv spirits, set to follow in the near future. 375 Park Avenue is a division of Sazerac.
