Report: FBI Raids NYC Retailer Sherry-Lehmann

July 19, 2023

Troubled New York City retailer Sherry-Lehmann was reportedly raided by the FBI yesterday. According to the New York Post, federal agents entered the store yesterday morning and remained until evening, in the midst of a multi-agency investigation of the business, which was closed in March for selling alcohol without a current license and hasn’t reopened. Former Sherry-Lehmann employees told the Post they’ve been interviewed by the FBI in recent weeks.

Wine Spectator reported last month that Sherry-Lehmann owes $3.6 million to its landlord, Hong Kong-based Glorious Sun, dating back to March 2020, and may have resold wine held by customers in its storage facility to new buyers. The retailer has also been cut off by multiple wine wholesalers and major credit card companies, preventing it from reopening over the past three months, and the Post reported that it owes $2.7 million in unpaid sales tax to New York state.—Daniel Marsteller
