Exclusive: Treasury Wine Unveils Penfolds Collection, Set To Launch Next Month
July 20, 2023Treasury Wine Estates is gearing up to launch its latest Penfolds Collection in the U.S. on August 3, including luxury offerings from California and Australia retailing from $40 up to $850 a bottle. Penfolds has annual volume of approximately 70,000 cases in the U.S., with the Penfolds Collection representing its top-tier entries.
Penfolds’ California releases will include Bin 600 Cabernet Shiraz ($50), Bin 704 Cabernet Sauvignon ($70), and Bin 149 Cabernet Sauvignon ($149), along with an Oakville Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from the Gamble Ranch Vineyard at $400 and prestige bottling Quantum at $700 a bottle. The Australian contingent runs from several bottlings at $40 up through Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz and Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon at $80 and extending into the prestige end with top wines like Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon ($450) and Grange ($850).
Penfolds has expanded its range to include globally sourced wines in recent years, and this year’s global launch also includes the second release from its partnership Bordeaux’s Dourthe, a multi-vintage Penfolds II Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot MV. “The Penfolds winemaking team relishes the opportunity to work across two hemispheres and numerous time-zones—with like-minded people and unique winemaking cultures—redefining what ‘pushing the boundaries’ now means,” said chief winemaker Peter Gago.
In May, Treasury said it was expecting a 2%-3% decline in net sales revenue for its fiscal year ending in June, with growth in Penfolds partially offsetting declines in its Treasury Americas and Treasury Premium Brands units. EBITS is still projected to rise, gaining 11% to 13% to A$580 million to A$590 million ($378m to $385m).—Daniel Marsteller
