July 26, 2023•Trinchero has expanded its popular alcohol free wine brand, Fre, with a new Sauvignon Blanc. The release, the tenth addition to the Fre portfolio, is made from grapes sourced from California and traditionally vinted before the alcohol is removed via a spinning cone process. The final wine comes in at less than 0.5% abv and 80 calories per serving. The new varietal is now available across the U.S. Last year, Fre reached nearly 350,000 cases in the U.S., according to Impact Databank.
•Italy’s Illva Saronno Group has announced that Marco Ferrari will take over as CEO, effective October 1. Ferrari comes to his new role with decades of industry experience, beginning at Bacardi in 1996, moving from roles focused on Italy to the UK, and then to global positions. He also has experience at Fratelli Branca and Stoli Group and, most recently, served as Gruppo Montenegro’s CEO from 2014 to 2023. As Illva Saronno’s CEO, Ferrari will have the assistance of outgoing CEO Aldino Marzorati, who will remain at the company as president to assist in the transition. In the U.S. the Disaronno International portfolio includes Disaronno, Tia Maria, The Busker Irish Whiskey, and Corvo and Duca di Salaparuta wines among other brands.
•Atomic Brands’ Monaco Cocktails, the third-largest spirits-based RTD in the U.S., according to Impact Databank, has unveiled a new packaging refresh. The new look, created with design agency Robot Food, features monochromatic cans themed to the cocktails inside, as well as a redesigned rooster insignia on the front of each can. Monaco’s cocktails are available nationwide and retail for between $2.50 and $3 per 12-ounce can. Last year, Monaco was up 33% to 2.6 million cases, according to Impact Databank.
•Italy’s Valdo Spumanti is launching a Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG in the U.S. market. The Superiore DOCG is made up of 90% Glera grapes and 10% Chardonnay and is made using the Martinotti-Charmat method. It’s rolling out to select retailers at a suggested price of $20 a bottle. This is the first U.S. launch for Valdo since the company formed its strategic partnership with California’s C Mondavi & Family, which now imports its brands in the U.S. Valdo is owned by the Bolla family.
