Ole Smoky Enters Tequila, Adding Tanteo To Portfolio

August 1, 2023

Tennessee-based Ole Smoky, a million-case player in moonshine and whiskey, is entering the Tequila category with a deal to add the ultra-premium Tanteo brand to its portfolio. Tanteo’s namesake brand is a spicy Tequila made with real-pepper infusions. Distilled in partnership with the cooperatively owned Distilladora Juanacatlan, the company sold over 70,000 cases last year.

The Tanteo range includes several different expressions, including spicy Jalapeño, extra-spicy Habanero, smoky Chipotle, and seasonal Navidad, alongside its ultra-premium Blanco offering and the premium Espero brand. Tanteo CEO Neil Grosscup and management will remain with the company. Ole Smoky says the move is part of its plan to “diversify its portfolio across other high-growth spirits categories.”—Daniel Marsteller
