Total Wine On The Move In California, Minnesota
September 13, 2023Total Wine & More is expanding its footprint with new stores in California and Minnesota this week, as the retail giant continues to broaden its presence around the country. Overall, Total Wine now has 256 stores across 28 states. The national chain’s revenue reached $5.5 billion last year.
Total Wine’s newest California location opens tomorrow in Culver City. At 24,000 square feet, it holds over 8,000 wines, 4,500 spirits, and 2,500 beers and includes a climate-controlled wine cellar for high end wines, a walk-in humidor for fine cigars, and space for consumer education classes and special tasting events. The Culver City outpost marks Total Wine’s 36th store in the California market. In the Minnesota market, meanwhile, Total is opening a new smaller-format store in St. Louis Park. That location spans 8,900 square feet and also opens tomorrow.
“We’re continuing to build new stores, with 18 new locations to be opened in 2023, and we are planning for 20 stores to be opened in 2024,” Total Wine co-owner Robert Trone told SND earlier this year. “The new stores will spread across many states, with California as a focus. Plus, we are remodeling 48 stores and have two re-locations planned for this year.”
Spirits have been gaining shelf space at Total Wine stores as new locations open and older stores are remodeled. “Today, spirits represent about 42% of our sales and continue to grow,” said Trone. “We have expanded the amount of space devoted to spirits by about 75% over the last several years, and we’re focused on having the best spirits selection in every market.”—Daniel Marsteller
