Whisky Advocate: Diageo To Release Latest Prima & Ultima Collection Of Rare Single Malts
September 15, 2023Diageo is getting set to release its annual edition of Prima & Ultima single malt Scotch bottlings, representing its most collectible whiskies on offer. This year’s edition, which goes on sale next month, was selected by master blender Dr. Emma Walker. It’s the fourth in the series and contains eight bottles in all, as with previous releases. For the first time, the full suite of Prima & Ultima is available to collectors in the United States, both as individual bottles or in a set of all eight rare bottlings.
Whiskies in the collection are from Scotland’s Brora, Clynelish, Lagavulin, Pittyvaich, Oban, Port Ellen, The Singleton of Dufftown, and Talisker distilleries. Highlights from this year’s releases include a Talisker 46 year old (its oldest bottling ever), the last 1996 Oban casks, the last 1977 American oak hogheads from Brora, the last 1978 American oak hogsheads from Port Ellen, and the final 30 year old from Pittyvaich.
Only 413 Prima & Ultima Fourth Release full sets are available worldwide, carrying a recommended retail price of $44,000 in the U.S. When collectors buy the complete set they also receive an additional miniature set of each liquid. The company has created a web page for collectors to log on and register their interest, and that site will close on October 11. Whisky Advocate has more on Diageo’s latest Prima & Ultima collection.
