The Wine Group Appoints New COO and CMO

September 19, 2023

California wine giant The Wine Group has made three new appointments to its executive team. First, Helen Kurtz has been named chief marketing officer. Kurtz was most recently senior vice president and general manager at Calavo Growers, and prior to that served as CMO for Foster Farms. She also spent 20 years at General Mills in a number of progressive leadership roles.

Kurtz replaces the retiring Jeff Dubiel. Over the past 13 years, Dubiel is credited with establishing the company’s marketing group and leading the creation of many TWG brands, including Chloe, Tribute, and Cupcake LightHearted.

Additionally, The Wine Group has promoted Mike Donich to COO. Previously executive vice president of operations, the 18-year company veteran replaces the retiring Brott Ritzel. Finally, TWG has named Jennifer Evans as CFO, replacing the retiring Tim Wiesner. Evans spent 11 years at Constellation Brands in various finance leadership positions, including SVP and global CFO of the Wine & Spirits division.

According to Impact Databank, The Wine Group ranks as the second-largest wine marketer in the U.S. by volume, at 42 million 9-liter cases last year. Its top-selling label, Franzia, accounts for just under 50% of its U.S. volume.—Daniel Marsteller
