October 9, 2023•Sotheby’s recently announced it will sell what it hopes will be the most valuable wine collection ever to come to the auction market, encompassing 25,000 bottles from the private collection of Taiwanese businessman and art collector Pierre Chen. Though only a portion of Chen’s collection, the bottles hold an estimated top value of $50 million, according to Sotheby’s. Wine Spectator has the full story.
•Rémy Cointreau USA has opened its new U.S. headquarters at 3 Times Square in Manhattan. The new office occupies the 20th floor of the building, featuring an open office plan, indoor and outdoor work and meeting spaces, as well as a wellness and exercise studio. The centerpiece is the company’s Artisan bar, where Rémy will host trainings and speakers. Designed in partnership with Rudin Management Company and Cresa Global, Inc, the layout of the new headquarters is intended to support the company’s hybrid working model.
•Austin, Texas-based Milestone Brands announced its newest product, Dirty Monkey Banana Peanut Butter Whiskey. Made from whiskey, peanut butter, and banana flavor, the allergen-free offering is at 35% abv and is available now nationwide, priced at $26 a 750-ml. Milestone Brands was founded by Eric Dopkins and Chad Auler, the former CEO and co-founder, respectively, of Deep Eddy Vodka; its portfolio includes Empress 1908 Gin, Dulce Vida Spirits, and American Born Whiskey, among others. Dulce Vida Tequila grew 10% to above 100,000 cases in the U.S. last year, according to Impact Databank, while Empress 1908 jumped 40% to 92,000 cases.
•Diageo’s Orphan Barrel Whiskey Co. is introducing Castle’s Curse 14 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Retailing at $175 a bottle, the 14-year-old single malt was selected from Teaninich Distillery in the northern Highlands and matured in European Oak. It’s bottled at 47.4% abv and debuting in limited quantities at select retailers nationwide.
