•Star chef Michael Chiarello—who helped put Napa Valley on the culinary map and became a pioneering restaurateur, author, and TV food personality—died Oct. 6 after an acute allergic reaction led to anaphylactic shock. He was 61. The Napa Valley culinary star and Bottega restaurateur made his name at Tra Vigne before venturing into cookbooks, winemaking, olive oil, and TV shows. Wine Spectator has a look at Chiarello’s life and career.

•Pernod Ricard-owned Monkey 47 Gin announced the latest edition of its annual Distiller’s Cut. Released every year since 2010, the limited edition features a 48th ingredient included along with the standard 47 in its Schwarzwald Dry Gin. This year’s version, officially titled 2023 Distiller’s Cut Edition 13 – Acer Saccharum, includes maple syrup sourced from the Cosman & Webb Farm in Quebec. It’s at 47% abv and is available in the U.S. in limited quantities, priced at $80 a 375-ml.

•E-commerce platform ReserveBar has promoted Derek Correia to CEO. Previously, Correia served as the company’s president. In his new role, he’s stepping in for company co-founder Lindsay Held who is transitioning away from a day-to-day role at ReserveBar. The transition to a new CEO coincides with ReserveBar’s 10th anniversary.

•Scotland’s Nc’nean Distillery has partnered with ImpEx Beverages to launch the organic distillery’s single malts in the U.S. The partnership is kicking off with the debut of Nc’nean Organic Single Malt Whisky, a non-age-stated malt bottled at 46% abv in 700-ml. bottles. The new release is matured in a combination of red wine, ex-American whiskey, and Sherry barrels before blending and bottling. Nc’nean Organic is now rolling out to specialty retailers across the U.S.
