News Briefs for October 20, 2023
October 20, 2023•Edrington-owned single malt Scotch The Glenrothes is introducing a new 25-year-old expression. While The Glenrothes has previously offered a 25-year-old, this updated offering marks an entirely new liquid and a fresh package design. The new entry sees a high proportion of first-fill Sherry-seasoned casks along with a mixture of American and European oak. It’s housed in a fully recyclable cylinder that unfolds to reveal the bottle within. The whisky is bottled at 43% abv and retails at $750.
•Pernod Ricard is debuting Chivas XV blended Scotch whisky. Aged for a minimum of 15 years in French oak and finished in Cognac casks, the newcomer retails at $50 a bottle. A permanent addition to the Chivas Regal brand range, Chivas XV is bottled at 40% abv and is intended to be served neat or in a variety of cocktails. It’s rolling out now at retailers including ReserveBar, Drizly, and Total Wine & More.
•Wine-based Margarita brand Rancho La Gloria has launched new Day of the Dead inspired bottles for its original lime and strawberry Margaritas. The new packaging adorns the brand’s 1.5-liter bottles and will be available in Walmart, Target, and Kroger, among other retailers for around $16 a bottle. The cocktails are at 13.9% abv. The new labels feature painted skulls with pink (for strawberry) or green (lime) accents and will be available for a limited time. Rancho La Gloria, which reached 1.4 million cases last year, is part of Patco Brands (MPL Brands). The Wine Group has a minority stake in MPL Brands.
