•Symington Family Estates is launching Taifa, a super-premium white wine from their Alentejo estate, Quinta da Fonte Souto. Retailing at $105 a bottle, Taifa is made from a few plots of mature vineyards with low-yielding vines and is vinified in 500-liter French oak barrels. Quinta da Fonte Souto was the Symington family’s first estate acquired outside the Douro region in 2017. Taifa 2020 is limited to 2,000 bottles and 80 magnums. Known for Port labels Graham’s, Cockburn’s, Dow’s and Warre’s, as well as their Douro wine brands, Symington is a leading vineyard owner in the Douro valley, with 26 quintas covering 1,114 hectares (2,752 acres) of vineyards.

•The Israeli Wine Producers Association (IWPA) is launching a “Sip For Solidarity” campaign amid the Israel-Hamas war, supporting Israeli winemakers. Noting that the Israeli wine harvest had begun just before the Hamas attacks of October 7, the trade group said the impacts could be “catastrophic not just for this year’s sales, but for the vintages harvesting now that won’t be ready for sale for years to come.” “Buy a bottle of Israeli wine,” said Joshua Greenstein, vice president of the IWPA. “Not only will the purchase help the wineries, but we’re donating 10% of every case shipped from November 1, 2023 – December 31, 2023 to Israeli relief efforts.”
